AQUATIC ECOLOGY CONCERT

WORLD WATER DAY 2018 | AUSTRALIA

Aquatic Ecology Concert: World Water Day 2018
Thursday 22 March 2018, 7.30pm-9:00pm
Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University

Celebrate World Water Day with immersive surround sound compositions and live streaming hydrophones exploring the soundscapes of aquatic ecosystems ranging from the sonic complexity of the Great Barrier Reef to shifting glaciers in Antarctica.

The concert features internationally renowned and emerging composers who have pioneered the use of hydrophones (underwater microphones) in aquatic ecology and music composition. The event will open with leading freshwater ecologist Dr Simon Linke introducing the latest research in freshwater ecoacoustics using sound to monitor the health of aquatic environments.

PROGRAM:

Jana Winderen (Norway) - Spring Bloom in the Marginal Ice Zone
Ros Bandt (Australia) - Isobue: Iso Nagecki Sea Lament
Nicole Carroll (USA) - Rome Point: Becoming Dusk
Leah Barclay (Australia) - Freshwater Prelude / Migration Patterns
Annea Lockwood (USA) -  Buoyant

This event is part of Griffith University’s program for World Science Festival Brisbane 2018 - an international event that explores and celebrates the entanglement of science and art. The concert is part of an exciting portfolio of collaborations across the creative arts and environmental sciences at Griffith University that are investigating the creative and scientific possibilities of ecoacoustics with the Australian Rivers Institute and Queensland Conservatorium Research Centre.

Tickets: $15/$10 at the door (limited seating, please arrive early).
